Festival Day Off

Thursday was a pretty quiet day. We didn’t have anything on the schedule, so some of us guys went for a walk and found a better barber for a shave. Things were slow as people did a bit of laundry in the sink or went walking around the hotel; others slept in late. We went back to Wedding Palace for lunch and then headed back to the hotel to get ready for our evening of performances. The plan was to have a street performance in Küçükçekmece then go to Fisher island (right along the lake) for a cocktail hour and performance for dignitaries, then to the Lake for our evening performance.

We started off with Volyn at the street performance in the late afternoon, where it was quite hot out still. Lots of people stopped by to watch while the music was playing, and it went well. There was lots of sweating though.

From there we were off to Fisher Island on the lake, where we were to perform for dignitaries. When we arrived we found out about the PKK terrorist ambush attack that killed 13 Turkish soldiers. Due to that they cancelled the rest of the night and all other ‘celebration’ type events as a sign of respect for the soldiers (all 20-28 years old) who lost their lives. As such it gave us a bit of a chance to take some photos while we were all dressed up in costume.

After that we just headed back to the hotel and had dinner, as the Turkish “special night of the groups” got cancelled as well. It was a little disappointing, but the right thing to do.
